    The flag of Ireland is green, white and orange. The green represents Catholics, the orange is for Protestants, and the white symbolizes the hope for peace between the two groups.

    Saint Patrick was born in the year 385 and died on March 17th around the year 460.



    He was the one who travelled across Ireland talking Irish about Christianity and teaching people to read and write

    Shamrock is the common name for several kind of three-leafed clovers native to Ireland.

    Three is Ireland´s magic number and the Irish say three-leafed shamrocks bring good luck.

    According to legend, St. Patrick drove all the snakes in Ireland out of the country and into the sea.


  • Leprechauns


    Leprechauns are very small old unfriendly men. They live alone and pass the time making shoes. They are shoemakers.

    They like collecting pots of gold.Leprechauns hide their pots of gold at the end of the rainbow.



    The legend says that if you catch a leprechaun, he will tell you where his pot of gold is.

    And if you are lucky enough to find a lepechaun, don´t take your eyes out off him, becouse he´ll dissapear with his pot of gold.





  • The Celtic Cross


    St. Patrick combined traditional Celtic symbols with Cristian symbols. He added the sun, a powerful Irish symbol, onto the Christian cross, so that the new symbol of Christianity was more normal to Irish people.


Saint Patrick's Day is usually celebrated with a parade.

The first St. Patrick's Day celebration in the United States was held in Boston in 1737. The largest St. Patrick's Day parade is in New York City. It lasts for hours.
